Just curious if anyone here does this. It’s a very large global community that uses the spare power of their computers to help find cures for cancer, alzheimers, parkinsons, etc. It is done through Stanford University. Personaly I think it’s a worthwhile cause.

I think the chances of success are higher for this than SETI, also more worthwhile. I fold for team 11108, MaximumPC. The stats can be found at this link. It adds a bid of a sense of accomplishment and gives a friendly competativeness to it.

When I studied 20 years ago, Alzheimers was a brain disease which was one cause of dementia and could have an early onset. Now the terms seem to be synonyms. Please answer only if you are a professional and work in health care.

There is a lot of mental illness in my family. My paternal grandpa was an alcoholic, had dementia and died from Alzheimers. Two of his sisters, as well as his parents, all suffered from mental illness and killed themselves at different times. Sometimes I worry for my dad, who is 50 now. What are things I can do to reduce getting Alzheimers or dementia? I’m 18 now.

Are there any daily activities I can partake with my grandmother to keep her from falling into the clutches of Alzheimers…she is 81, and I worry.
She doesn’t like to read much.
Is there anything that doesn’t involve reading and writing — that will help her retain her memory. Other sorts of excericises?

My dad is stricken with alzheimers yet refuses to wear the GPS tracking device required by the assisted living facility where he now lives. He cannot stay there unless he wears the necklace. He’s being ornery about it. Any suggestions?

My mom has alzheimers and i’ve been told that Medicare will pick up hospice for her without going after any assets my dad may have after she’s gone. I know Medi-Cal/Medicade will go after the home to recoop moneys spent, but i’m wondering if the same will happen with Medicare.
