Currently, it is estimated that as many as 5.2 million people in the U.S. have Alzheimer's disease. This number is expected to grow over the next 50 years as our population ages.

Do you know of any neurological disease similar to Alzheimer’s?

My mother in law has been addicted to hard core pain killers and combines them with alcholol use. Her personality and mood are very off. In the past five years I have noticed a huge difference in her lack of memory and concept of reality. Is she just frying her brain? Seems like early onset of Alzheimers or something ??? Does anyone know any info. or websites that can give me more information ???

You didn’t mention her age but it could be dementia. It’s alot like alzheimers but its not a disease just a condition of old age.

With alcohol abuse, the short-term memory section is the first part of the brain to be damaged.
It’s possible that age-related dementia or Alzheimer’s is also involved, but alcohol abuse alone will do it.
I’m not sure about websites with info., but I’m sure if you google words like alcohol related brain damage, you will find plenty of info.
    Best of luck.
