Dementia is a catch all for brain deterioration, different diseases attack the brain. Alzheimer’s is the one we hear the most about. There is no cure at this time. There are some meds that are thought to slow it down. It is hereditary. We here so much about it now because people are living longer.Shaking and tremors are not one of the symptoms in there.

One can have dementia without having Alzheimers. Dementia can be a symptom of advanced AIDS, for example. But generally, dementia is the primary symptom of Alzheimers.

As far as I know (which is not a whole lot, admittedly) dementia is simply one of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s. Dementia can be caused by a host of other mental illnesses; while unpleasant, it is not always Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is actually a type of dementia, so a person with Alzheimer’s will always have dementia, however a person can have dementia without having Alzheimer’s. There are different type of dementia and can have different causes.

No Alzheimer’s and dementia are not the same thing… Dementia is simply a foggyness in the thought process, but has not been shown by research to be guaranteed to get worse. Actually, research has shown the dementia by itself can actually be reversible to some degree….

Alzheimer’s, on the other hand, is a buildup of plaque and tangles in the brain. The reason for this is not really well understood yet. What is understood, however, is that it will get worse over time…. There are now protein tests that can be given to test for Alzheimer’s.

Finally, the shaking and tremors are not typical symptoms of dementia itself, but is commonly related to other issues, such as Parkinson’s disease or different types of nerve disorders. Parkinson’s, which is caused by a lack of the body to produce a brain chemical called Dopamine, will also cause mental decline as well…

Good Luck and I Hope this helps…

Alzheimer’s is One Cause of Dementia, but it is not the only cause.. there are many Such Causes…. Strokes for instance (Including Mini Strokes) can Cause dementia… Alzheimer’s is the Most common cause of Dementia but it isn’t the Only cause…sometimes Nursing homes will call The Dementia Division, the Alzheimer’s Division.. I guess they do this because its the Most common Cause, But not everyone always has Alzheimer’s per say… Alzheimer’s can not actually be Officially Diagnosed until after a Person is deceased..hope this helps..

Here is a good link I found that talked about Dementia and Alzheimers:

no they are not the same disease. dementia comes along with age. forgetful. Alzheimer’s is a 3 stage disease that may initially seem like dementia but progresses to the next 2 stages. shaking and tremors are not a part of either. shaking can be a symptom of another underlying condition such as Parkinson’s. tremors again is an underlying symptom of something entirely separate. there are no tests for diagnosing Alzheimer’s as far as i know. they just eliminate everything else it could be first and then that’s all that’s left.

Yes, they are the same disease, usually they call it Alzheimer’s disease when it’s onset attacks you at a younger age. They usually call it dementia when whatever it is begins eating at an extremely elderly person’s brain. My mother was 93 when she passed but they still called it Alzheimer’s disease. It’s awful.

Dementia is a symptom of Alzheimer’s. One can experience dementia without having Alzheimer’s.

Alzheimer’s is not technically diagnosable in a living person. However, when the symptoms are there, that is how the patient will be treated. Dementia is probably the most recognizable symptom of Alzheimer’s, it is basically the forgetfulness that gets progressively worse. It starts with little details and then grows into bigger ones, like what phase of life you are in and how old your children are and even forgetting altogether about younger members of the family. Eventually patients can lose the ability to speak recognizable words.
Shaking and tremors are usually a symptom of Parkinson’s disease.
